BANNER MATERIAL RECOMMENDATIONS BY APPLICATION:
- Scrim 13 oz.: good for both indoor and outdoor, most widely used, most economic choice for short to medium term applications, full color, digitally printed banners. Gloss finish.
- Scrim 15 oz.: good for both indoor and outdoor for medium term applications, absorbs inks well, vivid colours graphics, gloss finish.
- Blockout vinyl 17 oz.: good for both indoor and outdoor for long term applications, can be printed on both sides, good layflat properties, non-glare finish.
- Textile 17 oz.: best for indoor use for interior decorations, hanging banners, backdrops. Good layflat properties, non-glare finish.
- Mesh: best for outdoor X-large banners close to traffic because they are the safest choice when being blown away by the wind is a concern. Material has small holes (approx. 1 square mm) from construction and its loose weaving to allows the wind to pass through. However, printed graphics / images / text tend to show lighter color than on proofs (e.g. black will show like a dark grey). That is due to light coming through the mesh openings towards the viewer.
- Backlit 17 oz: for specific outdoor applications such as illuminated canopies and awnings.

We also use fire retardant banner material for exhibition display use.
Finished banner can have stitched or glued hemming, and brass or chrome eyelets for easy fixing.
We can add scaffold pole pockets if needed.
Banners spanning between posts or trees can be manufactured with a rope (sometimes referred to as "Kedar" rope) hemmed into the banner for added strength. ABOUT THE GRAPHICS:
Based of the Production Process used to create the Graphics, applications can be of two kinds:
- VINYL CUT (applied on the banner substrate)
- DIGITALLY PRINTED (i.e. FULL COLOR) (directly on the banner substrate)

For advertising in Calgary using temporary signs such as banners, sandwich boards (aka A frame) or others, please know that certain regulations apply. Very few people know that you can not install banners using strings or ropes.
For example, and according to the City Of Calgary:

"A temporary sign is NOT LEGALLY PLACED if it:
- Is closer than 30 meters to an intersection.
- Is placed within 10 meters of a crosswalk. If the crosswalk is located at an intersection, the prohibited distance remains 30 meters.
- Is closer than 2 meters from the curb or edge of the road.
- Is placed on a traffic island or the centre median.
- Obstructs any portion of a traffic control device or creates a potential traffic or pedestrian hazard.
- Is erected in a Prohibited or Restricted area.

A temporary sign is NOT LEGALLY ATTACHED if it:
- Is attached to a street light pole, traffic control device, fire hydrant, or Plus 15 bridge.
- Is attached to a sound attenuation wall.
- Is permanently affixed.
- Is supported by string, rope, wire or metal stakes.
- Damages municipal property.

In addition, a temporary sign is NOT LEGAL if it:
- Has a sign face larger than 0.6 square meters (approx. 2 x 3 feet).
- Is lit, electrified or inflatable.
- Becomes unsightly.
- Does not have, on the face of the sign, the name, mailing address and phone number of the owner AND the date the sign was set out.
- Is displayed for longer than 14 days from the posted date on the sign or more than 24 hours after the date that the advertised event concludes, whichever is less."

Also, within the City Of Calgary a banner, sandwich board, or other type of temporary sign cannot be installed or placed (affixed) on certain roads with highest traffic. These corridors restricted for banners, sandwich boards, and other temporary signs, include:
- Anderson Road
- Barlow Trail
- Beddington Trail
- Blackfoot Trail
- Crowchild Trail
- Deerfoot Trail
- East Freeway
- Glenmore Trail
- John Laurie Boulevard from McKnight Boulevard to Sarcee Trail
- 16th Avenue North from 6th Street East to the eastern City boundary and from 19th Street West to 44th Street West
- Marquis of Lorne Trail
- Macleod Trail from Anderson Road to the southern City boundary
- McKnight Boulevard
- Sarcee Trail south of the Trans-Canada Highway
- Stoney Trail
- Trans-Canada Highway from Home Road to the western City boundary

If you wish to advertise in Calgary using banners installed over a roadway (i.e. attached to the railing of a bridge, etc), you need to know that said banners or banners are acceptable and legal only if they promote a non-profit charitable cause or a public event by a community group or a major institution.
Only certain bridges and pedestrian structures in Calgary are allowed for banner display with a proper permit from the Traffic Division - City Of Calgary.
Very important is the fact that when you apply for a Promotional Sign Permit, the banner owner will have to provide proof of insurance, more exactly two million dollars of liability insurance naming the City of Calgary as co-insured for the period that the banners will be displayed.
Other important things to know when you are planning to find a banner manufacturing company in Calgary, according to the City Bylaws:
"Maximum banner size is 1m x 10m. Banners must be constructed of a sturdy fabric type material with perforations to minimize wind loading and; fastened with a light plastic coated cable (minimum diameter 1/8" / 3mm) and cable clamps, threaded through grommets in the banner and woven around the hand railings on the structure. The applicant is responsible for all damages to the structure(s) caused by the installation of their banners.
The maximum period that a banner can be displayed is two weeks. Banners shall be installed Sundays and removed Saturdays. Failure to remove banners on the specified Saturday may result in refusal of future requests."
Also: "A minimum of two individuals must install the banners. Installers must be a minimum of 18 years of age"
